Some economists argue that a country’s initial conditions – like its geography or its colonial history are the main determinants of its current economic development. Do you agree with this claim?Propose an alternative explanation for the huge current gaps between rich and poor countries. Finally, assume one finds that initial conditions are more important than other factors in determining a country’s economic status. Would this imply that it is useless that policymakers design and implement policies that enhance economic growth in these countries today? (1st)
